Bucket List Safari Trip
Anyone that knows me well knows that I am a nerd at heart and wildlife has a special place in my heart. Some of my earliest memories are sitting down with an old hardback animal encyclopaedia, learning all the animals, where they live and drawing them out. Therefore, when my wife suggested a safari trip, I almost bit her hand off.
It’s been a life-long dream, and of course, for me, that also means a lot of photographic potential!

Wildlife photography hasn’t been a mainstay of my photographic skillset. There are similar principles to sports photography in that it is a lot about capturing the moment in sharp focus and a lot long focal length. Opposed to portraiture which generally operates 35mm-85mm (ish).
As ever I’m never satisfied with the kind of image anyone can take and I found it a really interesting challenge to capture creative photographs, with a subject and light conditions I can’t strictly control.
I’m particularly proud of the creative images of the Zebra in the grass, I love that it is immediately obvious what we’re looking at which, from a photographic point of view may seem counter-intuitive, but I think highlights the great camouflage zebras have which typically seem out of place to human eyes.
I managed to image all of the big 5 except the Leopard! We went searching for days to no avail, which just gives me a great excuse to go back.
Here is a snapshot of some of my favourites, too many to include them all here.
